About Kinross

This variety gives you the wonderful freedom of choosing exactly the holiday experience you are looking for.
Loch Leven, the largest loch of the Scottish Lowlands is undoubtably the main feature of this area. Declared a nature reserve in 1964, the Loch today is of international importance attracting around 15,000 geese every autumn.
Sitting peacefully on an islet in Loch Leven lies enchanting Loch Leven Castle. Between April and September, take the small ferry and witness for yourself the scene of intrigue and romance. The Castle gained infamy when it acted as a prison to Mary Queen of Scots in 1567. Her dramatic escape by boat is one of Scotland's most romantic tales.
Kinross House, built by Sir William Bruce, is another example of the fine architecture in Kinross. Though not open to the public, you can appreciate it from the stately gardens - famous for their yew hedges, herbaceous borders and rose beds.
Nearby, the grassy banks of Kirkgate Park sit on the shores of the loch.
While in Kinross, in addition to a regular Saturday Car Boot Sale, Kinross Market hold a weekly Kinross Sunday Market, which is Scotland's largest indoor market with over 150 traders.
Shopping
When it comes to serious retail therapy, Scotland has it covered. From elegant and chic to ethnic and hand-crafted, you can always find just what you're looking for, be it gift, memento or strictly functional.

There’s also a wide range of farm shops locally selling unique crafts and homemade produce.
Castles & Whisky
We'll show you breathtaking ancestral homes and palaces full of stunning treasures in tapestry, ivory, gold and porcelain; and we'll tell you mysterious tales of secret rooms and tragic rebellions, and show you how we make the whisky that enlivens them in the telling.
Places to visit include:
- the island castle on Loch Leven where Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned for almost a year before her dramatic escape
- home of a Clan Chief at Castle Menzies, by Aberfeldy, where Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed on his way to the Battle of Culloden
- the childhood home of the Queen Mother at Glamis Castle
- the fairy-tale white Blair Castle, protected by the last and only private army in Europe
- the magnificent Scone Palace, where Kings of Scots including Robert the Bruce, were crowned - many atop the fabled Stone of Destiny
- Listen for the footsteps of "My Lady Greensleeves" who is reputed to haunt Huntingtower Castle where Mary, Queen of Scots visited in 1565 while on her honeymoon with Darnley.
Scotland is renowned for many things, castles, mountains, history and glens but for many people the favourite has got to be whisky.
